Plan around Chinese holidays before the factory schedule becomes crowded
Build realistic order, production and shipping buffers around Chinese holidays and seasonal factory capacity changes.
A calendar may show the official holiday dates, but the operational effect can be longer. Workers travel, subcontractors close on different days, materials stop arriving and shipping capacity tightens. A buyer who counts only the public holiday can underestimate the interruption before and after it.
Ask for the supplier's operational calendar
Request the last date for new material commitments, the planned production stop, staffing return and earliest reliable dispatch. Ask the same questions of key subcontractors and packaging providers where they affect the order. Treat early answers as planning information, not an unconditional guarantee.
Protect approvals from the rush
Late artwork, sample or specification approval can push an order into the busiest period. Set internal decision dates and identify who can approve quickly. Do not waive necessary quality controls simply because a holiday is approaching.
Reserve logistics with realistic cargo readiness
Discuss booking cutoffs, equipment availability, warehouse closures and post-holiday congestion with the forwarder. A booking based on an optimistic factory date can create cancellation or storage costs. Update the logistics plan when production evidence changes.
Separate urgent goods from the main order
If part of an order is genuinely urgent, compare split shipment, alternative transport or a smaller priority batch. Record the added cost and any effect on packaging or documents. Urgency should produce a conscious trade-off, not a vague demand to “ship before the holiday.”
Decision checklist
- Factory and subcontractor closure dates
- Material-order cutoff
- Buyer approval deadlines
- Production buffer
- Forwarder booking cutoff
- Post-holiday restart evidence
